Why couples choose a universal wedding registry for any store

Traditional retailer registries tie you to one store. You want that Le Creuset Dutch oven from Williams-Sonoma, the handmade linen from an Etsy seller, and the IKEA bookcase for the new apartment — all on one list. That is exactly what a universal wedding registry does.

With Gift Registry, you build a single link that includes everything from everywhere. Guests see one clean list, claim the gifts they want to buy, and the coordination happens automatically. Nobody doubles up. Nobody has to awkwardly call your mum to find out what is still available. The system handles it all, for free.

There are no completion discounts, no retailer incentives, and no pressure to shop at any particular store. You get the gifts you actually want, sourced wherever you choose, at no cost to you or your guests.

How it works — three simple steps

1
Create your registry

Sign up for free, create a registry with your name and wedding date, and start adding gifts by pasting product URLs.

2
Share the link

Copy your unique registry link and include it on your invitations, wedding website, or send it directly to guests.

3
Guests claim gifts

Friends and family browse the list, claim a gift with their name, and buy it directly from the store — no middleman.

Tip: Use the URL import feature
When adding a gift, paste any product page URL and click Import. The gift name, description, price, and photo are filled in automatically. You can add gifts from dozens of retailers in minutes.

How many gifts should we add?

A good rule of thumb is to add at least 1.5 to 2 times as many gifts as you have guests — so if you are inviting 80 people, aim for 100–120 items spanning a wide price range. Include plenty of options under $50 for casual acquaintances and more aspirational items in the $150+ range for close family.

Do not worry about running out — you can add gifts at any time. Guests who visit early and find a full list are more likely to claim something they are genuinely excited about.

Price range tips

Aim for a mix: roughly 30% of gifts under $50, 40% between $50 and $150, and 30% above $150. This ensures every guest finds something in their comfort zone. Gift Registry's built-in budget filter lets guests instantly narrow the list to their price range — so a wide spread genuinely helps everyone.

Tips for sharing your registry with guests

Getting the link to your guests at the right moment makes a real difference. Here is what works well for weddings.

Etiquette note: Wedding registry information traditionally goes on a separate card inside the invitation — never on the invitation itself. Your wedding website is always a safe place to list it.

Share by email directly from the registry

You can send your registry link to specific guests directly from the platform — click "Share by email" on your registry page, enter an address, and the system sends a clean, branded message on your behalf. No copy-pasting needed.

Keeping your registry private before announcing

Set your registry to private while you are building it. Only people with the direct link can view it, and you control exactly when to share it. Once you are happy with the list, you can keep it private (link-access only) or make it public.

Frequently asked questions

Can guests claim gifts anonymously?

Yes — anonymous claiming is a core feature. When a guest claims a gift, they enter their name (which is stored privately) but you as the registry owner never see who claimed which gift. You only see that a gift is no longer available. This keeps every purchase a surprise until the wedding day.

Do guests need to create an account or download an app?

No. Guests just click the link, browse your list, and claim a gift by entering their name. There is nothing to install and no account required. The process takes under a minute.

Can we add gifts from any store?

Yes. Paste any product URL — Amazon, Williams-Sonoma, Etsy, Crate & Barrel, IKEA, Net-a-Porter, local boutiques, anywhere — and the details fill in automatically. If a site blocks auto-import you can fill in the fields manually and add an image URL by right-clicking any product photo and choosing "Copy image address".

What happens if two people try to claim the same gift?

The moment a guest claims a gift it is marked as taken in real time. The next person to view the registry will see it is already claimed and cannot claim it again. Two people will never accidentally buy the same thing.

How do we share our registry link with guests?

Click "Share Link" on your registry page to copy the unique URL. You can include it on your wedding website, in invitation inserts, via WhatsApp, or use the built-in "Share by email" feature to send it directly. There is also a QR code you can download and print.

Can both partners manage the registry?

Yes. Gift Registry supports co-owned registries. Invite your partner by username and they get full owner access — add gifts, edit details, view which items have been claimed (but not by whom). Both of you can manage the list from your own accounts.

Can we add cash fund or experience gifts?

Absolutely. You can add any gift manually — including honeymoon fund contributions, restaurant vouchers, or spa experiences. Just enter a name, description, and price. You can link to a payment page (PayPal, Venmo, etc.) as the gift URL if you want guests to send money directly.

Can guests see who else has claimed gifts?

No. Guests can only see whether a gift is available or already claimed — not who claimed it. The claimer's name and email are never displayed publicly.

What if we add more gifts after sharing the link?

No problem. You can add, edit, or remove gifts at any time. Guests who follow your registry will receive an email notification when you add new items. The link stays the same, so anyone who already has it will see the updated list automatically.

What happens to claimed gifts after the wedding?

Your registry stays active after the wedding date. The post-event view lets you see all claimed gifts, mark items as received, and send personalised thank-you messages directly from the platform. Unclaimed gifts remain on your list until you remove them or close the registry.
